Shawn Flemming is the founder of Jolly Roger Tackle and here is a little about Shawn and how his growing company was started:
Shawn is married to his lovely wife Susan and they have two girls, Layla and Heidi. Layla is 4 years old and is becoming an ace with her Disney Princess Rod in the backyard. She is anxious to start joining her Dad for some big water walleye action. Shawn’s Dad, Chris Flemming, is the General Manager of Jolly Roger Tackle and handles several of the day to day operations.
Shawn has been a walleye fanatic as far back as he can remember when he caught his first one at an early age. He honed his skills on waters such as Devils Lake, Missouri River and Park Rapids, MN area lakes while growing up in Jamestown, ND. Shawn’s walleye addiction influenced his college choices as he went to Rainy River Community College in International Falls, MN to play hockey, chase Rainy Lake Walleyes and oh yea…go to school.
After RRCC, Shawn transferred to Bemidji State University where he spent countless hours on Winnibigosh, Cass, Leech and several Bemidji area lakes. Shawn moved to the Minneapolis area after college and has since made Lake Mille Lacs his home water. The days fishing the Big Pond is where he got the idea for Jolly Roger tackle while tying his own high quality spinners and rigs for the last decade.
Unhappy with the quality and selection of mass produced walleye spinners and live bait rigs, Shawn set out to design and assemble his own lures. Perfected by countless 10-12 hour days on the water combined with participation in competitive Walleye tournaments, Shawn knew he was really on to something that worked. Reasoning that other die-hard Walleye zealots harbored similar feelings about the quality of mass produced Walleye rigs, Shawn decided to offer his own line of hand tied harnesses, snells and components to his fellow Walleye enthusiasts… Jolly Roger Tackle was born.
Our mission is to offer a large selection of hand-tied Walleye rigs and components using only the highest quality parts and material available.
We have over 35 blade and harness patterns and over 40 bead colors. Our Pro Series Blades are painted by JT Custom Tackle in patterns proven on the tournament trails to put fish in the boat. We also offer a line of blank harness snells and bait rigs featuring Gamakatsu Octopus hooks. All of our harnesses and snells are tied on a 10 foot leader for anglers fishing waters such as Mille Lacs. Aimed to take the hassle out of changing spinners and rigs out on the water, our harnesses and snells are packaged on snell holders to easily store and change spinners and rigs. We are constantly experimenting with new color combinations and will have new product introductions on a regular basis. We also like to gather input from our customers for blade pattern ideas.
