I guess that finally answers the question “when is Bass Pro coming to Minnesota.”

I’m not a huge fan of this. It has shrunk up the competition pool for our dollars considerably.
This will make BassPro more profitable in the end, but I think we as consumers come up short.

    That sucks…

I bet you wont see the same sales you used to. half off is not uncommon at cabelas. The competition wont be there.

Can this really be good for consumers?

Less competition has never faired well for consumer price hikes.

All the guys who flocked to Cabelas to save $20 a year will now head to their local ma & pa shops. smirk

Are they rebranding the stores or keeping them Cabela’s?

Cabela’s and Bass Pro’s are great, but I have never lived near enough to one of them where it made sense to go there for day to day purchases. The selection is great compared to any other store, but just not convenient. And I don’t like purchasing online unless it is a product I already own.

Shopping at Bass Pro takes me back to when I was a kid and used to walk down to the Holiday store back when they were Grocery/Retail stores. There is jut something about walking up and down isles and looking at tackle.

I would be happy to see that happen. Wish there were more Ma & Pa shops around though

In another report, this was mentioned:

    http://kstp.com/business/bass-pro-to-acquire-cabelas/4280317/?cat=1

“Bass Pro CEO Johnny Morris says he hopes to continue growing the Cabela’s brand alongside his own Springfield, Missouri, based chain.”

    Also:

“Capital One will take over running Cabela’s credit card unit as part of the deal.”

    What’s in your wallet….

I hope they rebrand at least one of the three Cabelas they have in the metro.

That’s strange. The orginal push from the major investor was to seperate the CC card business from the retail. Basicly sell the retail operation. They contended that the stock was under valued combined. Selling the retail operation would increase the value of each if they were seperate entities. Maybe this is a way the Cabela’s major stock holders are saying F U for sticking your nose in our business. Were going to get rich and you are not.

I’m sure Cabelas has vendor contracts that must be honored. It will take time but eventually whats in one will be in the other.

BPS won’t mess to much with what made Cabelas worth $55 billion.

I realize Cabela’s is a big one but I really wonder if much will change from this sale.
Now a days, there are just a ton of different places to shop on-line and the younger generation is much more likely to buy on-line than big box store fronts. Just to list a few, Amazon, Mills Fleet Farm, Fish USA, Fish 307, Blood Run Tackle, Tackle Direct, Overstock.com, Gander Mountain, Outdoor Pro Shop………there are a lot more than what I’ve list here.

Hopefully with the buying power they will have we will see better pricing. But I will not hold my breath.

Bass Pro doesn’t have any better pricing.

I support the mom and pops. Corporate greed is a thirst that will never be quenched. These places survive by giving credit to those who shouldn’t have it, letting them max out the card, and charging more because you can have it “now”. I’ll pay cash at private shops thanks…

I doubt pricing will go up, too many other places you can buy most items they sell to get away with it.

I see they will have better buying power and a greater reach.
I shop at a Bass Pro in Portage, Indiana on my way to see my daughter and her family in Michigan, but then I also buy certain products online that are rarely carried in local shops.

I shop 1st at Cabin Fever Sporting Goods in Victoria, MN. where more often that not price is just as good as any other areas stores. Even if it’s not better, by the time I would drive elsewhere, I am money ahead just buying local where they know the products and answer questions. If Cabin Fever doesn’t carry it I can order online from BPS, but only products I know.

I rarely go to Cabela’s as the cost of dollars and time to go (Driving a minimum of 50 miles) to Cabela’s is costing me much more than shopping local and paying just a few cents more.

Gander Mountain rarely has the products I want for Bass Fishing. They are convenient in Eden Prairie, but if I cannot find what I need, it is a waste of time.

Thus, I think BPS buying Cabela’s is a great move on their part and hopefully great for consumers too!
