To a great extent this is going to depend on the lake. I just spent 10 days up near Aitkin on a lake I’ve been fishing for over 30 years. It’s very clean, lots of sand and rock, and as described in the video the coontail grows out to 15 or 16 feet. The DNR stocks a lot of Walleyes in it too. I know from long experience that leeches on the weedline will result in dozens of hammer handle Northerns, dozens of Rock Bass, dozens of Largemouth, maybe some Bluegills. Dozens of them, and they go through a lot of leeches. Maybe once during a full week you might catch a short bite window and maybe a Walleye or two. You have to pick the right lake.

James, I have a question for you. I see you added some trax on the boat. Are those for down riggers? They look like the 6″ ones?

I bought a 2014 WX 2060 last fall. I want to put riggers on. We were on Lake of the Woods last weekend testing it out. It is an impressive boat.

Nice work on the episode. Looks like fun. Man, you guys make it look easy!

Now you’re playing my song. I cork the majority of the time.
I like the sliding bell sinker and light leader line tip.
How many hours do you get out of that style bobber? I’ve been avoiding those disposal lighted corks even tho you can use them as a traditional float after the B dies, just don’t want to fill my box with them when they are done.

Yup, those short tracks are for downriggers. Lake Michigan salmon are calling my name!

I wish I could answer that. I don’t cork often enough to have ever fully drained one. I do have some corks of that style that I’ve used 3-4 days on the water and they’re still going strong.

The batteries on the vmc lighted slip floats appear to be replaceable. The whole light and battery holders slide out as a single unit. Getting new batteries in and out don’t look to be an issue. When I get back to the studio Monday I’ll take a closer look and let you know either way.

    Thanks James,
I used that setup to catch dinner off the dock last night.
