Daylight Savings Time Stories

By now everyone should be aware that early Sunday morning we turn the clocks back an hour (this is the “good” one, as we gain an hour of sleep). I thought I’d start a random Friday fun thread to see if anyone has any good, bad, or dumb stories regarding DST.

Mine is from about 8 years ago when I had started my new job and was going through an on-the-job training phase. I was due to be into work at 0700 the Sunday after DST and I had went to a small gathering Saturday night. Prior to leaving for the festivities I wanted to be ultra proactive and set all my clocks ahead in case I came home slighly intoxicated and forgot. So I went and set all my clocks ahead, wall clocks, microwave, stove, alarm clock, etc. all got bumped an hour ahead. Notice a theme here? It was in the FALL, where clocks get set back, not ahead. Thankfully at some point before I did crash I realized what I had done. Had I not realized I would have literally been to work two hours early and been pretty upset.

I have one of those clocks you don’t have to set. Power goes out, come back on and time is set.
It was also established to the daylight savings times. You just put switch on which time zone you are in and whala, it automatically changes that also… Then, our Pres went and switched that around and now that dang this gets me everytime. A week or two ago it switched auto to daylights savings time but that’s all different now.
So I switched to another time zone, now tomorrow night I need to remember to switch it back
    Can’t leave well enough alone.
    That’s my story

Young kids don’t recognize daylight savings time. All it means is that we’ll get an extra hour to get them ready for daycare in the morning.

Plus it gets dark sooner, so they think it’s time for bed sooner (probably the only part about that that I like).

Short of getting rid of the whole damn thing entirely, it is SO much better now that they moved it back into November.

I used to HATE DLST in the fall back when it used to be in October. I mean really, it pissed me off so badly that even Mrs. Grouse commented that it made me grumpy.

It was the whole thing about just when daylight is getting in short supply and I’m trying to get things ready for winter, they’d go and steal a PRODUCTIVE hour of daylight at the end of my day. Because of kids and whatever, it doesn’t me any good to have daylight earlier in the morning. I can’t go out and chop leaves or whatever at 6:30 a.m.

Overall, it just needs to get gone. If you read about the history of DLST, what most people think think is the whole “logic” behind it is wrong. There were actually a whole list of reasons why it was put in place and most of them are either based on odd “science” and assumptions, are outdated, or are just outright wrong.

It just shows how once you get something in place, it goes on forever even if the reason for having it is gone.

I was once an hour late to work ON WEDNESDAY. I hadn’t set the watch that I rarely used but used that day. Did nothing for my reputation.

A friend of mine commented once he just hated daylight saving time. I asked how come expecting the early darkness, etc. complaints. Instead he said when he drives his car he doesn’t know where to put his hands– at 10&2 or 11&3????? lol lmao.

hilarious!!! havent heard that one before.
an Indian chief once said about daylight savings time, and I quote: leave it to the white mans government to cut two feet off of your blanket only to sew it to the top and tell you that you now have a longer blanket.

    aint it the truth!!

I worked with a guy years ago who told me his family turned back the clocks on Monday morning so they would gain the extra hour of sleep on Monday(work day) instead of on Sunday. shock

Don’t get rid of day light savings time. Get rid of standard time which is what we are on now. This spring we should spring forward 1 hour and never touch the clock again

    Grouse

I see Grouse posted this twice. One must have been from the past, the other from the future when we went back in time on Saturday. Luckily they didn’t see each other and tear the fabric of the space/time continuum. whistling

There are areas of this country that dont recognize DST. They seem to be getting along fine.

Arizona, include: Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Some parts of Indiana did not observe daylight saving time in the past.

All I know is that at 6 pm, it seems like it’s 10 pm and time for bed…or a Hamm’s.
