It’s that time of year again!

If you haven’t seen the signs near the dam, the restricted area doubles every March 1st from 150 yards feet to 300 yards feet. Boats are ok to maneuver (as long as there isn’t a fishing line down) in the outside 150 yard feet and of course the closest 150 yards feet to the dam is a no fly zone all the time.

Citations are being written for fishing closer than 300 yards feet to the dam.

A WI Water Patrol Officer felt there are “A LOT of people fishing the refuge this year”.

    Write’m up.

I’d be ok with having that refuge go from the dam to Everts and have it open above that point only from May thru October.

Brian, isn’t it feet not yards? 300 yards is 900 feet. That is a long way down.

This is from the WI Regs 2018-2019. Boarder Water, page 66.

Fishing is prohibited within 300 feet below the Red Wing Dam and Alma Dam from March 1 through April 30 and within 300 feet below the Onalaska Dam
from March 15 through April 25.

Has The SCRATCHER showed up yet? I feel bad if he’s beat me out yet again.

Thanks for the reminder, BK. I avoid that refuge anyway, but good to remind folks.

We can only wish it was yards and not feet. There’s a lot of eagle food being “released” on the daily up towards the dam.

Hopefully one day the MNDNR will finally realize that it cost $0.00 to lengthen the area beneath dams and protect more fish (or anglers who have no idea what they are doing)

Feel bad. Boyd was out last weekend and possibly the weekend prior. )
