Are the chargers available through this group buy. How much for 1 battery, 1 charger and shipping? Thanks.

Chargers are an extra $19, I believe. I’m not sure about shipping.

Strike master batteries? Are the batteries 40 volt or 50 volt??

Does anyone have/use these frequently? Are they honestly worth the price?

It appears the life cycle is about 5x your standard battery according the website. Approaching $100 bucks vs $15 for a standard (5 x 15 = $75). So, not sure it pays based on life cycle alone.

What are the other benefits? Are they noticably lighter? Do they charge faster? What’s the story? Looking for a reason to get in on the deal.

Much lighter and last longer. I picked one up this winter and couldn’t be happier. However my helix always reads it as 100% battery life. I think I made it 24 hours or so one my first charge

If you can turn on the voltmeter on that unit, Dakota recommends to not discharge below 11.0 volts for maximum life.

If you do not mind the wait times for shipping and not as fancy packaging here is a link ( may need to replace connector ends ) to one on Aliexpress I have purchased numerous stuff from here and have always had great service.

It doesn’t appear that those batteries are rated to be used in cold temps. It says 0-60 degrees which is assumed to be Celsius because all other units on that page are in metric. That means it shouldn’t be used below 32F.

Yes they discharge flat, not on a curve like sla batteries. So battery monitors don’t work with these. I’ve brought over 60 north of the border, and I tell everyone to run it at home so you know what the life will be.

I have a Vexilar Ultra Pack and wondering if their lithium charger would work or not. Can you just hook up the alligator clips to the two posts on the front of the pack? Or will that not charge it?

Yes, you can use the ultra pac posts with the lithium charger and battery.

Hi Tom and Don – I believe the aliexexpress batteries you linked are 3 cell design, vs. the 4 cell design of the Dakota lithium. 4 cell = better for applications requiring a solid current draw.

    They are 8 cell design, they are using 8 18650 batteries. 1.5v X 8=12v

That’s not right. 18650 cells are 3.7 volts baseline, 4.2 fully charged.

Then they are crazy because it says in the description “12 V 10Ah 18650 lithium”. And the picture clearly shows 8 cells in that pack. Must be a scam

It’s likely marginal quality 2500mah or even 2000mah 18650 cells, not a true scam. The listed specs are borderline useless. 8 18650 cells would be about 80mm x 35mm x 75mm in size, smaller than this.

I can’t count through the blue shrinkwrap well enough to be 100% sure, but I see three rows of cells. My guess, 3 sets in series of 4 (or 5) connected in parallel. The attached pic almost looks like it has 5 per row.

Keep an eye on fishusa… They were offering 20% off kayak accessories yesterday. That could’ve been applied to Dakota Lithium batteries and chargers. Buddy got a 10A and charger for $93 with free shipping yesterday.

STOP! Let me tell you from experience, before you go plugging lithium batteries into non specified chargers make sure you get expert advice from someone you trust.

For example, if you plug a dakota lithium battery into your traditional flasher charger it can start a fire. I have seen this first hand and lithium batteries are nothing to play with unless you know what you are doing.

If I knew what I was doing, I would give you advice other than be very careful!

That’s not correct. The Dakota Lithium and Energized Outdoors batteries have BMS systems and are safe to charge with a standard 12v charger that your flasher would use. The only downside is that they may not get fully charged.

After some digging around, my apologies the Dakota battery is a Lithium Iron battery LifePO4 not a Lithium Ion sorry, so the two are definitely not the same battery that I had linked.

Better deal and better batteries. Available at ampedoutdoors. No need to do group buy. Plus shipping is free. I am not connected with them. Other than being one happy customer.

I don’t know if its ok to put a link on this forum.

That battery is much like this one which is the blue brick I was talking about here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/323961141996

That’s a 3s configuration 18650 pack. The BMS it uses is a standard Chinese balance charger that is widely used in American products. They’re running NCR18650B 2000 MAH cells. NCR makes a decent 18650, but Samsung LiFEPO4s have better life. I would venture you’re paying for Samsung LiFePO4 cells in both the Amped Outdoors, and Dakota Lithium batteries, but the difference performance wise is miniscule. I could buy 2 of these and still be at a lower cost than the LiFePO4 packs.

4s is not exactly greater than 3s. If you’re running a 4s pack, you are at 16v down to 12v. 4s run a greater risk of cells discharging at their cutoff voltage which damages the battery, and you will be running a dc to dc converter to drop it down to 12v which effects output amperage. On the flip side, running 3s has an operating range of 12.6v down to 9.2 which is perfect for 12v applications like most gear we use on the ice.
