Dakota Lithium 12V 10AH VS Marcum Brute Lithium 12V 10AH

Anyone have experience with both of these, quality, run times etc? The specs look to be almost the same for both lithium batteries with the Marcum being slightly cheaper. Looking to make the switch from the standard Lead Acid Battery within the next few days.

I just bought some of the Dakota Lithium batteries in the fall. They were having a huge deal. Sorry to say I haven’t tried them yet though.

The difference between the two (if any) will be far smaller than the difference you notice from upgrading from the old lead acid. Get whatever is cheaper. Don’t forget the calculate a lithium charger into the mix. Unless you have that covered already.

Just bought a pair of these from Scheel’s.

    Charger included for $80/each.

Sorry Oxfish…blew right through the requested comparison.

I purchased Brutes. Warranty to 2000 charge cycles of at least 80%.

Dakota would be another $50 right now if you need a charger too.

nice. The Brute seems definitely cheaper and includes a charger vs the Dakota where you need to also purchase the charger separately.

ah good point on the warranty. Dakota says 11 years and not sure on the Marcum.

    2000 charge cycles, Oxfish.

Depending on how often you need to charge after an 80% drawdown would equate to several years for the average fisherman.

How on Earth would they know how many charge cycles a battery has gone through to determine if its warranty replacement or not?

Check out Ice Hole Power on YouTube. He does tear downs and reviews on both batteries. The Marcum tested out much better than Dakota

Dakota warrants atleast 2000 cycles as well but also has the 11 year warranty timeline.

Not sure if they’ll still honor the price, but Marine General had the Marcum Brute kits at $59 for Black Friday. If you call and ask they might. They like to say they’re always doing show pricing on things

I don’t have an answer to that, Cap. Maybe some sort of chemical composition testing?

Must be something like that, but that would be interesting to find out. At least to me the warranty in years is something super easy to keep track of. I purchased a Dakota Lithium last year and fully charged it up, but then right after that my season ended so I have no idea how good it is. -)

Duluth Ice Show is this weekend, so I would bet they’d be show pricing if you called them up. Russ, Corey and the crew are great to work and deal with!!

I beleive Sheels ran a $50 sale last year on them! with a charger included! crazy low price, just goes to show you how much they were being marked up when not on sale…great battery!

Battery’s BMS would log charge cycles. When charge reaches 100%,it gets logged as a cycle. And good batteries won’t allow charge current when below 32F.Cheap ones would get detstroyed.

Been very happy with my Dakotas. Charge quickly, Run well in all types of weather and always gets me at least a day’s worth of run time with my Helix 7 with Ice Defense and Glow Ring running as well. Love their power box too.

Sure did – I bought 2 myself! MG at $59 is the best price I’ve seen so far this season.

I’ve ran the Brute since last season (gotta love that Scheel’s sale last Black Friday), Runs a Helix 9, if one is careful with the settings, pretty close to 10 hours. I can run my old M5 Marcum for days. Picked up a Force this year’s sale, different chemistry, so I’m curious to see how it compares at 12ah. It’s noticeably lighter than the Brute, I can say that. I’ll be giving it a test run up at the circus this weekend so we’ll see how it goes, was really planning on it just being a back up, utility battery, but if I can get similar run time, I like the weight reduction.
