Last season a game farm(fenced) deer tested positive for CWD triggering new rules for three counties. That being said, my buddy Walker relaxed the rules for game farms. Essentially, they no longer have to double fence if they choose not to participate in “voluntary” CWD testing; whereas prior if they didn’t participate in testing they had to maintain a double high fence set a certain distance apart.
To us, it’s always been a “downstate” problem…both CWD deer in the Norhtwoods in recent years have come from game farms. Don’t like them.
Looking at the Wi DNR website the highest incident rates of CWD are in adult bucks. Sounded like it was as high as 30%. Yearling does had the lowest incident rate.
Since it is here and there is no way to eradicate it. Some deer never get symptom’s or remain immune to CWD to me the best plan is let it run it`s course thru the herd. After that we will never likely have another issue with CWD or very little..

Well, there’s that.

I might have a little more confidence in the idea of I noticed words like Epidemiology and associated accreditations listed in your Bio. If given a choice I’d rather my food was non-diseased.
There is NO WAY TO CONTROL CWD a Coyote finds a dead deer That deer dies from CWD. Coyote snacks on it leaves feces some where along a trail, deer bends over to smell what’s this? Deer could very well become CWD positive. That spot from where the feces lays could be contaminated with CWD for who knows how long.
Does anyone remember what our governor has done to our dnr? Hired a deer czar from Texas to decide how we manage our deer herd, if I remember correctly , he recommended stopping most of the tactics the dnr was using, letting it run its course. He slashed the budget , firing most of the scientists on staff , appointed a lapdog politician to lead the dnr, with no education or experience in the field. Now he comes out and says we need to do ” more”. Really??? What we need to do is hold him and his deer czar accountable . Get politicians out of the dnr and the right people in place to properly care for our resources.

Thanks Mike-I’d been trying not to think about it-from either a fishing OR hunting side. Just gets me
