Can anyone share what the current lake conditions are like on Mille Lacs after this latest round of snow we got the last 2 days? Can you get around with a truck pretty well out there? Any updates would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure how much snow they got yesterday but as long as you stay away from “The Crack”, you should be go to go. I haven’t found anything less than 24″ of ice in all the places I’ve checked. Good luck & Tight Lines!!!!

Where is “The Crack”? We will be heading out from a resort, just not exactly sure which one yet.

I’m more concerned with snow depth than anything.

Depends where you go out of. Weedis and I went out of Hunter’s Point and there is one right along shore, and a smaller one out on the lake. Otherwise it was pretty much good to go. I know there are a few on the north end, and the one running along the west side that is there every year, and same on the south end. As long as you are going through a resort they will show you where any breaks are, but as long as you don’t try to jump any breakers you should be good.

There was only an inch or two of snow yesterday so that should be a non-issue. “The Crack” goes all the way around the entire lake. Again, non-issue if going out of a resort just pay attention to what they tell you. If you cross a bridge going out and start roaming around, just make sure you come back across the bridge returning.

Heading up tomorrow morning, I drive a three-quarter ton truck, with the current weather conditions should I have any worries about driving on the lake?

Very little if any melting yesterday. I would expect the same today. You should be good to go.

Was up on Garrison Bay Saturday. Public access is messed up, but you still can get on. Another 6″ of ice, and you’d need an extension…

Was planning on going on Vineland, but they had motorcycle races going on. Wigwam’s access is only good for wheelers… just an fyi.

    This made me chuckle…

With the warm-up the pressure ridge “pushed” and first thing this morning there was 2 hours spent re-positioning our bridge and putting it in a new spot. Plus we had to replace a few of the 2″ by 6″ white oak decking planks that were broken by someone that was obviously “stupid” (and probably drunk), driving a vehicle over it too fast in the middle of the night. Customers that were out there reported to me that sometime after 2:30am a couple vehicles were driving around at high speeds, swerving and spinning on the roads. Apparently one of them went over our bridge and as “karma” would have it… bottomed out their vehicle on the top of the ramp and damaged their oil pan, leaving a trail of oil headed out onto the main lake towards the gravel bars. I hope they destroyed their engine and someone that reads this lets me know who it was so I can turn them in for polluting the lake, and damaging my bridge. They deserve everything that can be thrown at them. I have no patience for crap like that out there.

Which leads me to this. With all the new wheelhouse people up here these days and the disrespect some of them seem to have for other fishermen, I think it is time for changes in the State laws of distance between fish houses, permanent, portable, and wheelhouses on large lakes. There is absolutely no reason why anyone has to be within 75-100 feet of anybody out there on Mille Lacs. All daily access wheelhouse customers here get a little information sheet explaining how we would like to see them respect others and keep their speeds down on the ice roads. And most part they all appreciate it. We have customers coming here just because of that. Maybe it’s time that other resorts around this lake start doing that also, and maybe there wouldn’t be so many problems with fishermen going out of one access and coming in on another, or using some other resorts bridge when they went out of a different resort, driving way too fast on the ice roads, all sorts of things related to fishermen that don’t know what should be done to make it safe and enjoyable for everyone. And for you shitheads that think joyriding around in the middle of the night for fun on the ice roads because you are stupid and think you can….get a life….you are the ones that will wreck it for everyone. And may God help you if I ever catch you at it….I guarantee it will be the last time you ever do it…

    Keep a Tight Line! Eddy

^^^^^^^ Yes I read this too, from Eddy Lybacks report south side.

Here is another report on FB from Mac’s Twin Bay on the east side of another inebriated folly this past weekend….

Hey, you can help me stop the rumors on all the chat boards. No truck went down here.

At around 2 am, on his way back out on the ice, a guy turned left in the middle of the road, driving right between the blocks we had placed to mark a spot where we had a pool on the ice due to the warm weather yesterday. Kevin drove out to check on it and whoever it was had taken off. We’ll get it off the road today.

Update: guy came in, apologized. Has no recollection of what happened but has stayed here two weekends in a row and does know the road setup. Kevin and Loren and Arlo pulled him out.

Went out of Rocky Reef over the weekend and the ice was very good. Approximately 24″ and crystal clear. Main roads are decent, but side roads and off-road is very rough.

We went out of Rocky Reef as well and everything was fine…From the Rockman’s report yesterday it sounds like they may have had to move the bridge again. It was a little tight for big houses to get over the bridge but definitely doable. They were very helpful and let us know what to expect and where to go. I was impressed and will be back.
