Pike is closed. So I wouldn’t suggest that
Pike is still open on Mille Lacs through 3/31/19…
Northern Pike: Beginning December 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019, possession limit five, but only one northern pike over 30″ is allowed in possession provided that the angler, on the same day, has also harvested two northern pike less than 30″ in length from Lake Mille Lacs prior to harvesting a northern pike over 30″. The dark house spearing season begins on November 15, 2018 and ends on February 24, 2019.
To the OP, I think all resorts are done maintaining any roads out there with the exception of Chapman’s in Isle. Anywhere else you try to go out of, you’ll be on your own.
Chapman’s usually posts daily on their FB page about current conditions and fishing reports out of their access.
Could be a fun idea. Set up close to shore and set out some tip ups and have a summer cocktail. Should be like 50 degrees and sunny.
I guess I was more interested in what the slush and snow is like. I was hoping that 4 wheeler travel would be an option.
Let me know if you find out. I’m itching to get back up to my place and now that I know pike is open until March 31st maybe I’ll do the same.
I went out of Garrison sports on Saturday and Sunday with snowmobile. Our plan was fish gators as well but no bait shops had suckers or shiners. We fished tulies instead on the flats. Travel was okay. Snow was hard packed with almost no slush. The only slush pockets we found were close to shore on the way in and out.
Well damn I’ve been in the dark on that one. I didnt know pike had a extended season on the big pond. I take back my earlier statement

I do not think a wheeler would be a good idea. I have a place on the east side and there is a layer of slush under the snow, that was a problem with a snowmobile if you did not stay on a hard packed track.
I did notice someone fishing with a 4 wheeler and portable Saturday morning. I think he must have had trouble because later in the day the sled was left on the ice and someone came back Sunday morning with a snowmobile to pick it up.
