What really drives me nuts when selling something is the number of people that reach out and ask if its still available but then never respond when you say yes.
If you’re referring to FB, it took me a bit to figure it out, but I just immediately delete those messages now. And the ones that make a low ball offer without asking any questions or coming to look at the item.
June 19, 2023 at 2:45 pm #2208952Yeah I am referring to FB Marketplace. I feel like people reach out to ask if its available to just be annoying on there.
June 19, 2023 at 3:05 pm #2208956Regarding FB Marketplace and the ‘is it still available’ messages. I responded to one guy and asked why he inquired about my item for sale then never got back to me when I said it was still available. He said he never sent the ‘is it still available’ message, he said he just hovered over it and it must have automatically sent.

June 19, 2023 at 9:25 pm #2209020do what makes you happy! if you want a 70K truck and a boat to match, then have at it. some don’t need much to be happy. we bought our house as a foreclosure and fixed it up working our tail off, i picked up my boat and truck just before the prices skyrocketed and feel like i am cheaper now than before for sure. i was also lucky enough to win a life changing amount of money which i have not even touched yet. i am perfectly happy with my 12 year old boat and my 17 year old truck. the wife still shops at Savers because she likes it. not interested in showing off….some do i guess?
June 20, 2023 at 10:38 am #2209121I pretty much spend my money on whatever I want. I am at the point where the $6 coffee, tastes about .50c better than the $2 gas station blend… can you justify $3.50 for that ? Not me. I guarantee you I caught more fish the last 10 days, for $1500, than any guy in a $90k boat did and I did it in an old 16 foot Alumacraft with a Mercury 8hp.
duh queenPosts: 547June 20, 2023 at 12:24 pm #2209155My boat is over 40 years old now. It doesn’t have reclining seats or a coffee maker, and it doesn’t hook the fish for you, (something that should come standard in a $70K boat) but it’s paid for and still going strong.
I’m baffled by what people will pay for a new SxS. They’re basically a small car with a loud muffler used to tear around the woods….but you need to buy a $15K trailer to haul your little noise maker to somebody else’s neighborhood to use it.mudholePosts: 90June 21, 2023 at 8:10 am #2209310My theory is as others have said “do what makes you happy”. But I will say, do it with a plan! Don’t do it if your living check to check or don’t have anything in savings. Don’t go on that vacation using credit cards then have to pay it off all the next year, just to go on another one the next year and have to pay for that one all the following year. All along paying interest as you pay those things off for a full year. This goes for all things…a vacation is just the best example I can come up with because I hear so many people on planes talking like this.
My wife drives a Lincoln because she wanted one. But we also max out our 401k, HSA, IRA, and still put money in savings every month. BUT we still buy lots of generic food brands because we don’t think the taste is much different. We don’t go out to eat because it is too expensive (and the wife cooks better anyway). I don’t have a $150 fillet knife because I think the 20 year old $8 Rapala works good enough. We bought a high end pontoon because that makes us happy every time we get on it.
The point is some things we blow money on and LOTS of times we (meaning I) pinch pennies. Buy the things that make you happy when you use them as long as you are doing it with future financial plans in mind.
Too many people buy ALL the things that make them happy then have no idea how they are going to pay for an emergency or retirement.
June 21, 2023 at 10:50 pm #2209454Sometimes the best of plans go haywire. I’m pretty financially conservative, shop at aldi, have no debt other than a house and cars, have savings and am putting 14% into 401k and other investments….. just missed my international flight from Korea to Minneapolis due to a boneheaded mistake by me. $6500 later we fly out tomorrow. That stupid mistake cost us what we would have used to pay for next year’s trip. I’ll be kicking myself for a long time for this move but I’m already planning on ways to earn it back through side gigs. Money comes and money goes
June 22, 2023 at 4:15 am #2209460I like to make money, at the same time I like to spend money. I have very cheap buddies who have monster savings accounts but do absolutely nothing. I’m very fine without that. I have a comfortable stash that I could survive a year off if all hell breaks loose. The rest gets spent. We do fun stuff all the times. I have no desire to be 75 with a monster savings and no way to use it. I would rather be 75 with the best stories. That said I don’t loan money. My new trick is paid off, all our toys are paid and I rest easy when I want to take a couple weeks off work. Most guys I know with the latest and greatest fish house, camper truck boat and wheelers are so ties to loans its gross. 1 accident from loosing everything.
