Crosby Mines – Trout – Ice fishing

Looking to visit the Crosby area this ice season to hopefully catch my first Lake Trout.

Many of the forums seem to be several years old, but I’ve seen mentions of Sagamore, Pennington and a couple others.

    I understand:
    1. Season runs 1/18/25 to 3/31/25.
    2. Only one line is allowed.
    3. Limit 1 Lake Trout in possession.
    4. No live minnows.
    5. Fishing allowed 1 hour before sunrise to 11pm.
    6. Trout stamp required.

Any tips on the best mines, depths and techniques for Lake Trout in this area?

I don’t think there are lake trout stocked in the Crosby pits. They do have brown, brook, and rainbow trout.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) stocks lake trout in some of the mine lakes in the Crosby, Minnesota area, including:

Yawkey Mine Lake: In 1988, a stocking crew accidentally introduced baby lake trout to this lake while delivering rainbow trout. The DNR responded by introducing lake trout to other nearby mine lakes and changing fishing regulations.

From the stocking data you posted, it looks like 2019 was the first year they stocked either lake with lake trout. It list them as adult but the size looks like they were less than 2 Lbs. Not sure of the growth rates in a pit but 5 years later how big do you think they may now be ? A laker thru the ice is on my bucket list. I’ve caught a fair # of them in open water but none ice fishing. Good luck on your search for one. Keep us poster on your chase.
