Fished the flowage up in Gordon WI on saturday. Many people call it the Gordon flowage and other the St Croix flowage but its where the croix begins.Fished out in chicago bay and picked up a few crappies and gills. The bite was very light for some reason but we were able to get enough for table fair. There was alot of snow up there (4wd was a must)
but there was a road from the trucks going out to the bay.
Fish were good size largest crappie was 12 in and a few 8 in panfish.
Most the lake is shallow and muck bottom with a lot of weeds. We sat around 9 feet and were just using small demonds w/minnow and waxies. All the crappies hit were a green and glow with a silver back w/crappie minnow.I tried a lot of things to see what they hit but the green and glows were the ticket for crappies.

I know this isnt the same area we are looking for post on but it is the Croix. If you get up there in the summer they have some great bass fishin, big crappies and monster gills. We have seen people catch a few 10in gills

    Jrod

any pike on tip ups? The flowage is loaded with 2-5lb pike, it’s a great place to chase them with a fly rod in the summer as well. Also of note, the WI DNR has been stocking leech lake strain muskies for the last couple years as well…..

Well we left the tips at home hoping to get into more crappies but there were some flags going in the area looked mostly like hammerhandles.
I have never fished that body of water for muskie but do plenty just a few miles south. If I knew how to post a pic I have one of a 44 in I caught last june.Awsome color never seen one really like it.
