Anybody know what the USGS was up to on the Croix on Monday? I saw them launching in Hudson at 6:30AM and they were pulling out around 4:30PM or so. Just wondering what they might be studying now.

    Saw them Friday. Normal patrolling.

Are they tracking the zebra mussels movement? Looking for something else? I couldn’t find anything on their website. What do they normally patrol for, do the put out nets and see what they get? Just curious with what is going on with the river since I’m out there so much.

Any boating violation. Stranded boaters. Drunken boaters. Unsafe operation. No wake violations. The list goes on. They are simply out there making sure the river is safe for everyone.

Jon, it seems one of us may be confused. USGS (United States Geological Survey) seems more environmental than anything. Their website seems like they do biological research but I couldn’t find anything on the St. Croix, that’s why I was asking if anyone else had heard or seen anyting. The boats they had were flat bottoms with platforms in front and lights for shining into the water. Looked like maybe for shocking or something.

That was a dyslexic brain fart there… My mind saw USCG. Sorry!
