I hooked up with fellow IDO member Jeff Jerry Sunday for a morning on the Croix of chasing eyes. The fishing was fun even though the eyes did not agree with my techniques. I hate it when I get beat by the fish, now I just want to get back out there and try again to see if I can figure it out.
All we managed were some sheepys, smallies and a few bluegills (small ones). We didn’t catch anything on cranks this time and the bites on crawlers were very soft and not taking much. We were marking nice clumps of bait fish but no eyes came out of them.
Anyone have any suggestions for a game plan for next time? Should I anchor over the pods of baitfish and try jigging? I’m at a lose for what to do but it’s still fun trying. At the launch there were some bright guys heading out that thought it was light enough to run without lights at 5:15AM ????
It was still a fun morning, I think Jeff had fun fishing out of a different boat (I always like to try others boats) even though the guide didn’t perform very well, maybe next time it will be the other way around. After I dropped Jeff off I picked up the FW and cruised down to the Kinni to enjoy the rest of the day sitting in a lawn chair watching the scenery.
