My Wife, Daughter and myself spent all day Sunday on the St.Croix. This is my second attemt on the river,it seems kind of ironic that I have avoided fishing there because of the boat traffic. We arrived at the bluffs about 7:00 Am, they love to fish but they also love to sleep in on weekends.
I have placed two priorities on myself for the summer fishing season, one is to learn how to fish river systems and the other is jig fishing. Can you imagine some one who is not at all proficient in jig fishing tring to teach two others how to jig. LOL

Needless two say that did not last long… Lets try trolling crank baits says my daughter… I was out numbered.
So we started trolling, turns out it was a good way to find areas of interest to fish. We managed to catch one sauger one walleye one smallmouth and one white bass during our Nine hour trip on the Croix… well not all of it was spent fishing we did beach the boat and went swimming also.
It does seem to be a developing pattern for me so far this season, as far as numbers of fish in the boat compared to hours on the water.
All in all it was a great day to be out on the river. Three goals were met, we learned a little bit more about river fishing, we caught some fish, and Jigs? well I will keep trying…I still suck at it.

Glad to hear you’re getting out to enjoy the area with your family!
