I’d like to get down to the St. Croix later in the week for some smallmouth fishing. I havent been out this year, any reports and pattern suggestions would be much appreciated.

Is that season open yet? Croix has some cray rules.

    dumbest rule ever…

lets have walleye and white bass open, but not smallmouth. I want to go out this weekend with a ringworm and hair jig and fish wallyeye, white bass and crappies….what do you suppose I will catch???

The frickin river has about 20,000,000 smallmouth and is in no danger of being over harvested. Frankly, it needs some harvesting to take some out of the system. DNR needs to pull their head out of their rectum on this one

sorry, that is my annual rant

On Friday prefishing for the Hamm room, we caught more small mouth than sheephead and walleye combined. If that explains how the bite is. Those freaking rat bastads. Then on Saturday, it was the channel cats turn to steal our bait. We caught 3 cats and each one we had hopes it would put us in the money.

Thanks for the head up! I didnt even consider the season would not be open yet. Regardless of the fairness of the rules, etc. I dont want to be a “violator”. The bass will wait.

    Thanks again.

As mentioned its not open yet, but even while fishing for everything else you are going to run into them. We caught about a dozen of them last night chasing white bass around. We caught a couple dozen of them as well. They’re just as fun.
