Which is the most frustrating

OK, which is the most frustrating.

    1. People who turn left into St Croix Bluffs to launch in the morning when there are about 40 – 50 boats behind you in the right lane waiting their turn which means they lose their spot to park to someone who has only been there about 5-10 minutes.

    2. People who motor through a spot, assess the sitution, and then drop their anchor where 4-6 boats are already working a spot.

    3. People who do not respect the no wake zones.

I think I must really be getting old, because these all fall into the catgory of basically no respect for others in my book…

I saw all of these more than a few times this weekend.

Anchoring in channels or areas of high traffic, especially on moving water, really torx me the most. I can think of more than a couple areas on the Croix that no respectfull person would anchor.

The park gate thing has got to be frustrating. I wont launch there early mornings. I would rather come up from Prescott than wait in that line.

Number 1. Ah wait, number 2. Number 3 I always hope there’s a lighted boat somewhere watching (Kinni is good for this!). Now I’m back to number 1 again, that really torques me and I’ve seen it happen too many times to count. Number 2 still makes me mad….

Maybe this is why I spent the weekend on pool two?

Were the no wake buoys in at Afton? I see they were at Prescott, but not the Kinni narrows. I was only out a few hours on sunday, but I didn’t see the Wisconsin DNR out there. Were they out there checking people on saturday?

I’d have to say #3. That is a law, obey it. I don’t know about the Bluffs because I can’t launch there because my trailer is too low. As far as anchoring in a group of boats, who cares, if there are 4-6 boats working that spot I will go find an un-pressured spot.

thank God this happens at other places other than pool 4—thought we were the only ones.
Just goes to show you lots of people never read or heard of the “golden rule”.

There were no wake buoys out at Afton from the Marina I am sure, but nothing marking the bar.

Kinni had no buoys at all.

You didn’t quote my whole statement. I agree it might not be the most considerate thing to do. I am just saying that there is a lot of river to fish, if one spot is getting pounded by 4-6 boats your luck will be better elsewhere.

Don’t they have someone at the top of the hill controlling traffic once the lot fills? I know they used to, but been a while since I used that ramp on a busy weekend. Maybe a few well directed complaints could stop future frustrations!

Here’s a number one for ya. Have the Bluffs staff forget to re-set the timer on the front gate. One opener we were lined up a 1/2 mile in both directions on the road. Sure enough, at 7am, exactly one hour after the gate was suppose to open automatically at 6am, the gate swings open.

How about the guy I saw pulling planer boards in the Hudson channel on sunday. There were 4 boats trying to get around him but not enough room. There is barely enough room during the week to pull boards around there.

Did he catch any fish Onestout ?

All reasons I stay of the Croix during opener. I wait until after the MN opener then 85% of those kind, thoughtful people whom use all the common sense in the world are off the river and at lakes.

I didn’t stick around to see if he caught anything, he was staying on the south end so I headed for the north end. I was originally going to head down south of the Kinni but when I say how many boats were down there I didn’t think I would make it through that channel either. And it was about time to head home so I thought I would try a spot near Hudson. A friend of mine that was working the channel wasn’t having any luck.

I have seen this occasionally, but what they really need is someone to direct traffic at 6:00 AM. Here’s an idea, why not distribute cards to open the gate as you arrive for those who have paid the annual park fee . I would actually pay extra for that, and I generally do not like giving my money to the government for anything to be honest…

I hear you on the no respect. A few years ago I was anchored in the middle of the Kinny channel talking to all the trollers that were boating by. Having a good time.

Then this guy that had to have high blood preasure proceeds to chew me a new rear end for anchoring in HIS trolling spot.

No catfish in the Croix anyway.

No I was giving Suzuki crap.

Yeah, Tom took my dad and I out on the Croix about 18 years ago when we first moved to the valley.

I don’t think Tom would yell at anyone over fishing.

not bashing anyone i have a 16ft boat with a decent trolling motor and usually like to run that but sometimes ill admit to anchoring in a trolling or drift zone, i commonly take my younger brothers out and it is easier, just remember the guy that is out their trying to make it work for their young son or daughter to catch a fish. plenty of water to fish

    Here are a couple…
Drifting the MN side on the South end of the Kinni. A-holes who motor up between the boats drifting and the shoreline as they go further North. Plenty of river on the WI side, or heck even in the middle, to go up. There were several of them on Saturday.

The other at the bluffs launch. The guy who launches his boat in the first spot and then ties his boat up there so nobody else can use that part of the launch. How about not be such a lazy arse and go park your boat in the designated spots they have for boats. Good thing it wasn’t busy on Sunday or one of those temperamental pleasure boaters would have probably kick his arse…

Oh, and finally it is very frustrating when the incompetent MN DNR decide to check you and they decide to grab your boat with a hook and pull it towards them and then crash the corner of their POS Lund into your fiberglass boat TWICE and then act like it is perfectly within their rights to damage personal property. Talk about a couple of a-holes…

That one drives me nuts, some of the ramps in the metro have signs up saying not to do it and people still do it.

I actually had a guy coming in off the lake tie up there while my friend was backing my truck down and I was coming in to load.

Oh well, it makes for good stories.

Thats interesting when you talk about them bumping into you my buddy has glass boat and he sued them two summers back needless to say the state paid for his repairs. Take lots of pictures and get names and badge numbers and such.
