Fished the Forest Lake Ice fishing Contest on Saturday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm and got skunked. Figured I had to keep trying so my son and I fished the St Croix at the High Lines from 4:30pm to 7:30pm Saturday evening. It was an absolutely beautiful day for fishing but the fish were not cooperating. We caught one mud puppy and that was it. There is a lot of ice, we were right down to the auger on the ice. Lots of snow too, which makes for a slushy mess. Even though I got skunked it was such a great day to be out that it was worth the effort.

Are there always so many Mudpuppies up there? I was fishing by Prescott the other day and caught two of them. Any place else they are kinda rare.

MUD PUPPY: Any of several North American salamanders of the genus Necturus especially N. Maculosus, that live in damp regions and have conspicuous clusters of dark red external gills. Also called Water Dog. (Definition courtesy of dictionary.com)
