Got out with SIVee for a couple of hours this morning. The crappies were very elusive but were present 80% of the time. First one was a nice 12″ slab that escaped as I was reaching down to pull him out of the hole. I then went on a streak of missing fish after fish or having them hooked up for about 3′ to have them come un-buttoned . I finally got aggressive with my hook sets and got some fish on the ice. We were also on a perch bite that was un-real, not many had much size but you couldnt get the bait down to them soon enough. They were just waiting and as soon as the bait was down they were hooked up. I wish I could have stayed because with this front rolling in the bite is only going to get better. I had to leave SIVee and the crappies we were starting to accumulate and stop home for a quick bite to eat then off to work. I plan on spending the majority of my day on the river tomorrow and if the fish cooperate I should have some good pics and hopefully some willing walleye to report. Until then

SIVee thanks for letting a big guy like me hog up your shack with ya, tomorrow I’ll drag mine out. I’ll see you out on the river tomorrow

Get yourself one of them diamond hook sharpeners. They clip right to your pocket and look like a pen. When your hook scrapes your fingernail and digs in it’s sharp enough. There about $4. I touched up my sons hook at the Ice Fishing Show trout pond last year and he came back with 2 trout for dinner!

After JJ left i continued fishing the same area but i decide to move out a little deeper 32fow. Had the same results with a couple more decent crappies and watched my marcum be continuosly “LIT” up from fish being around and looking and not taking.

Seemed like the ol’bobber and minnow was the ticket, with few fish coming on jigg’n spoons.

Perch didn’t care what is was as long as there was minnow on the end! They were in shallow, 8-9fow..

    Gotta go, Merry Christmas
