    Oh man! That hurts!!

And a BASS guy on top of it!

    Turk? What company you keep!

Nice cat SteveO! I’m going to guess that Limit Creek rod was bent around the boat!

They used it to flag down a muskie guy with a real net!

SteveO! That’s a dandy. Congrats…. and way to stick it out from hook set to landing net. An hour is a LOONG time to be tied to a fish. How’s your wrist and forearm feel right about now?

    BK

Brother, I ain’t lyin’ that was flat out work. Limit Creek- Smoothie, 10 lb test, 4 lb dia Suffix main. 6 lb Suffix Siege leader. good coaching by the Turkster and some luck. Honest to pete, I am truly blessed to be able to land that thing. my arms are still shaking….

the head of that fish barely fit in the net. good thing I was with a pro. Turk did mention a couple of times during the fight that he thought we needed a bigger net.

we got it, took some photos and with a couple powerful swipes of the tail the leviathan returned to the depths. jeez, that was so much fun..

And now you know what turns a bass man or a walleye guy into a catfisher… they’re here, they’re there, they’re everywhere and they’re amongst the state’s behemoths.

    Congrats, dude… well played!

    deano,
maybe not but that rod sure did the job. i gotta give props to the Suffix Siege 6lb mono also. good stuff. as I was trying to get that thing off the bottom Turk kept reminding me that “it’s only a 6lb leader”

    Steve O,

The important question is did you catch any eyes? I’ll be out all weekend surching for eyes.. Will be working from Hudson to Prescott.

That fish looks like the same one I caught in the same spot your at, last weekend. Taken on a 3-way Crank combo. I was using 80# Power Pro though, so it took about 3 min to get in. Those cats sure love the crank baits. I bet we caught 5 or 6 of them dam things!

    Beautiful fish, SteveO.
I was out there yesterday chasing cats but I should have been where you were. It was a picture perfect day. All I managed was about a dozen sheepshead and one nice channel cat but I still had a great time.

I’ve been getting a few other reports of nice flatheads being caught. Looks like they have the feed bag on before wintering. Water temp was 44 degrees yesterday near Hudson.

AHH the ol dip net! Half way during the fight, I told Steve I need a bigger net…When it came up I got the fishes head in the net, it filled the net and more than 2/3 the body was hanging out. So at the same time I grabbed the net hoop and lifted the tail, wrestled it in, put the fish down and watched a gallon of fish water pour out from its mouth onto the bottom of my boat and listened to SteveO’s exuberance!

Ya the Limit Creek was a bending – nothing like field testing! We had a big channel cat hit the day before as well, so the big fish are bitin’.

Walleyes are biting I have been doing well on three ways (been getting many 16 to 19 inch walleye and sauger). I also know guys are putting fish in the boat vertical jigging fatheads. 25 to 35 fow. Turk

By the way we clobbered the saugers and walleye on Saturday. 13 fish over 15″ to 20″ inches and 6 fish from 14″ to 15″. 28 fow. water temp 44, Same presentations as my last post/report (got to go I’m being summoned by the boss). Turk

Awesome fish SteveO. Screaming like a little girl is still better than peeing on yourself. You didn’t pee on yourself too did you?

no, but I did hand the pole to Turk for a time to take care of some business out the back of the boat.

Ahhhh! That’s right he did! SteveO said take this(the fishing pole) he walked to the back of the boat took a leak and then came up to the front and I gave him the pole back…I forgot about that. If the fish would have fought any longer he would have ate a sandwich!

Side note – Hit the river today on a guide trip with Dan Wilkening from River Falls and his buddy Jeff, we did very well for sauger and walleye landed 15 keeper fish, plus many FAT white bass. The big key was minnows. Fatheads. The artificials i.e Rapala floaters and plastics were not nearly as effective as minnows.

For plastic and jigs I have been using B-F-N and Evert’s Brand ringworms (firecracker). Crankbaits and plastics will return to favor very soon (I think).

    Keep catchin’

    EXACTLY my thought!
I may have let Turk write his name in the water for me…But I’m not handing over the rod with the fish on it!!

    Great fish guys!!
