Anybody know about, have any info about or hear about a Musky tourney that was held on the Croix this past weekend 9/12-9/13 ?

Sure it was a Musky tournament and not the Prescott Daze tournament. Heard 4.5# walleye and 12# nothern won those catergories.

I have not heard either. I believe it was the MMTT and launched out of Hudson.

33 fish caught total. 24 on Saturday and 9 on Sunday. 2 – 50 inchers and 2 – 49.5 inchers. Pretty impressive numbers for fishing on a weekend on the river with 80 degree weather and 10 million pleasure boater included in the mix.

Since there aren’t any muskies in the Croix…anyone know how many boaters it took to get those numbers?

I had a budding, “who is not really into walleyess” sit and watch every boat come by, he said the highest number he saw was 71, they had the numbers stickied on their motor, so probably around that. I did see a lot of really nice looking musky rigs, them x190’s look sensational. Talked to the guy who was in 7th with one fish and probably is the same guy who took 4ths, fishing was tough but he did see some nice fish.

The winners sure put their time in pre-fishing. I saw them out there on 9/3 or 9/4. They probably needed all that time to beat those local boys.

Tournament officials at Hudson told me they had 90 entries and were more than pleased with the number of fish caught.
Had the opportunity to be one of the on-the-water judges both days, equipped with digital camera, radio and orange cover for backseat/motor…called in a latst minute as a backup. Three of us were stationed south of the Kinni where I saw a lot of fish surfacing early both mornings but heard only two were caught down there–beginners luck but I did get a check for fishing (non-muskies) for two days and extensive training in use of the radio camera and rules aimed at keeping the fish alive and healthy as top priority. Only heard of one fish death so far. Suppose we’ll see more detail in Mucky Huner magazine…anyone see a list of results yet? Oh yeah, water temp at 6″ tonight 6p.m. at black bass point was 73 degrees F. Last I checked today appeared to be Sptember 14. Moon was waning crescent directly overhead at dawn.

From what I heard there were 76 boats in the tourney. I’ve heard of 3 fish that were spotted dead either during the tourney or right after it. 1 was in front of Beanies, another in front of Kings Landing in Hudson, and the other on the WI shoreline south of the interstate. I’m not trying to say these fish were caught by people fishing the tourney, but chances are they were.

Anybody care to share their thoughts on having a tourney like this on their home muskie waters? I have mixed feelings.

Its a bottomless no-win discussion. Tourney advocates will always justify their actions and there are little to no laws to the contrary.

I don’t know if I can call my home waters as I don’t live that close, but it happens to be where I do the majority of my fishing.

According to the PMTT rules, the team has points deducted if the fish dies and that angler is suppose to be done for the day (the daily bag limit), but that doesn’t do much if it is dies later.

Any idea how much tourism money was brought in? I think that is usually the argument for the tournaments. I personally don’t like the publicity between the tourney and the TV shows as I think there is enough fishing pressure already. I certainly don’t own the water so if everybody wants to fish there that is their choice, but I think there are a lot of metro lakes that are hotter with bigger fish than the river…

can’t say that I care for it. I don’t fish muskie much but was lucky to tie into a really nice 42″ that we boated. got me fired up again. the fact that there were two 50′ fish caught oughta guarantee a bunch of big bait huckin’ dudes will be hanging out there. I don’t hate the fact but wish there wasn’t a tourney held out there
