Hard water question

Over the long weekend I decided to test my luck ice fishing on my favorite summer spot. This spot consists of a point that comes up to about 6′ and sharply drops off to 27′. I started drilling my holes, 6 good inches of ice, so I felt safe. Found the 27 foot mark and set up. I went out 4 times in this same area and came up empty, not a nibble. I was using fat heads with various jig combinations. This is my first year ice fishing, so I thought that a good summer spot should produce in the winter also. This location hasn’t been fished since ice set in. Are there flaws in my logic?

What section of the river were you on? were you on the tip of the point or a break on the north or south. What are you going after?maybe we can help.

That sounds like it should be a good walleye spot. What is on bottom? I’ve had a lot better luck on rocky points than on sand/mud.

I was at the tip of the point with a sand bottom. Was looking for a few walleyes that I released earlier in the year. I was fishing in between Prescott and Kinni on the minnesota side. Hmm rock bottom, I know where a lot of that is, its just a matter of how to get there.

ritt first thing I would check is shallower structure.I have been out twice looking for walleyes in deep water and came up emptyhanded.I think if you are all by yourself try drilling a few more holes on that point or find another in the area and work the whole point.I have not been down below the kinni yet but there is a couple great areas on the wi side (sand and rock points)that did pretty good in the fall.Being near deep water is good but dont limit yourself to the tip of the point. There is one point in the area we fish alot during soft water that drops down to 40feet but most our fish are cought around 8-12 feet. The fish may not be holding there but sometimes you can get skunked on one of those rocky points and someone 10 feet away is eating walleye for dinner
