This came out of the Wednesday Stillwater Gazette –

St Croix boat access to close for reconstruction: A popular access to the St Croix river north of Stillwater will be closed for about three weeks in August to allow for replacement of the boat ramp and construction of a new turnaround area.
The St Croix Boomsite public water access, located a half-mile north of Highway 96 on Highway 95, will close around August 10. The site should reopen by August 29.

Hmmm…I haven’t been there for a while, but I didn’t think it was that bad(?)

The ramp is not bad but many have trouble getting their boat on even because one side is lower than the other and the usable area is quite small. I look forward to using it once the ramp is done and sturgeon are biting!

Thanks for the heads up Steve!

Maybe they should use that money to dredge a channel out to the main river channel

Hope it’s done by sturgeon season

I saw that notice earlier this week. It’s long overdue for some repairs. There’s busted off steel posts sticking up out of the sand, a big blow-out hole and drift from the powerloaders, and the pavement is beginning to show it’s age. I’m sure there’s other issues that I’m not seeing. This is one of my favorite upriver ramps, I’m really glad to see it. jerr

the turn around needs to be made bigger and the power loading has created a giant pile of class 5 piled up behind the ramp . well see how long it lasts this time. the winter is also ruogh on this ramp also.

I’ve never had a problem but I suppose with fall pool the blow hole is more evident?

Thanks for posting, Steve. I hope they improve the dock a little. It needs to be longer in high water.

Ryan, I agree with dredging out a channel. Higher water isn’t a big deal, but I don’t think I’d try it now.

Any updates on this? Sturgeon season is just around the corner

I went by the launch on the water on Monday and they were laying a new concrete ramp. The turnaround was lined with new curb and gutter. From the looks of things they are on schedule for the end of August unless the weather holds them up. I would imagine all that rain the last few days held up some work.

There is a deadhead in Boomsite Bay on the way out to the main channel that may cause some problems if you are not looking for it in the dark. I would recommend those of you with a GPS to waypoint it so you don’t accidentally hit it. I’ll try to hang a white jug on it if I get a chance. Some people run the bay pretty fast and if you hit that thing it could wreck the trip.
