Lots of bait starting to show up upstream. The last few nights that I have been out you can see a lot of small minnows getting hammered by just about everything.
River is at 675.3′ (this is the normal summer time pool elevation so water is low in spots) and the water temp is a warm 83 degrees. There is a fair amount of backwater crud and a lot of grass floating in the current right now. That recent rain must have busted a lot of junk loose in the backwaters.
Looks like the usual summertime bait pods are starting to show and they have most everything else chasing them. When the water is flat calm you can just look up the river and watch the fish chasing minnows. I pulled one nice 26″ channel cat and missed two last night dragging cut bait. This is a great time of year when the bait pods start to show – seems a little early this year.
