I agree the option you bring up is a good one, and many smart anglers use that for trolling cranks to provide elasticity and absorb the shock from the hit. For vertical jigging it depends on the bite, in the article, I discuss a slower bite, when vertical jigging it is not an issue of elasticity, but of over sensitivity. From my experiences vert. jign, I have seen light line mono catch more fish on slow days than fireline with or with out the blood knot. Plus if the bite is hot you know a hit right away with mono.
