where is the border. i notice the mississippi does not have season for alot of fish, while the croix has seasons. i know many anglers wonder what the border is too. is there a definite answer.

The train bridge in Prescott is considered the border. Go up the Mississippi towards Hastings and that is closed head down stream towards Red Wing and the river is open.

If you stay south of the railroad bridge at the confluence of the St Croix and Mississippi River you are OK.

Page 50, 2008 Minnesota Fishing Regulations: The boundary waters is defined as: Mississippi River downstream of Prescott, Wisconsin and all waters between the Burlington Northern (Wisconsin) and Chicago Milwaukee (Minnesota) railroad tracks.

my interpretation of that regulation is that as long as i am south of the rail road at prescott i should be able to fish walleyes all year round right…

That spot generally comes to life spring and fall but there are always fish “present” there. It’s a fun spot.
