I don’t get out as much as i used to but read the posts and wish i was fishing. I might have time to get out early saturday morning and am wondering where you guys think i would have the best chance at some of the slabs. I used to get them on the wisconsin side but last time i was out shanty town had encroached on my out of the way spot. Is the minnesota side good at all? Thanks in advance.

I’m sure one of the Croix regulars will be on here soon to answer your question Loon. I know one of them is working.

I haven’t been out on the Croix since Dec. My info might be a bit out dated.

The best directions I’ve ever seen on a website is stuck to the top of this forum.

The only thing better would be Steve D’s turn by turn voice coming in over my computers speakers.

    Nice work Steve!

I can say rite now it is a horse a piece and more about finding the deeper water 36-45 FOW is most likely going to be your best bet. As shacks have to be off the ice at the ebnd of the month they are disappering one by one every day. The bite this week is like the last few weeks very unstable, one day you can be on them and the snot out of ’em and the next day you have to work your off just to get a bite. The best bite for me “lately” has been in the deeper holes fishing near the bottom with one rod and about 6′ up with another. If you get into the crappies be prepared to sort through the little ones and reel the little guys up slowly so they stay alive. Heres a slab from yesterday in a 5 gallon bucket I’ll be posting a report later today when I’m more awake

Try to move away from the crowds a little and stay in the 36-42 has been best for me. Early in the day plain hook and minnow have been good for me then as the sun gets higher jigging spoons and a head or even a waxie. You gotta mix it up. Been averaging 15 or so a day all the 10-13″ variety with a couple little guys biting too. During the day the fish bite very very litely so spring bobbers come in handy. The fish cruise the basin so if a guy wanted to try and follow them, move around a bit, I’m sure you could get quite a few more but, I’m kinda lazy
