Usually see a few guys south of the 94 bridge to and from work. Not looking for any secrets, but I was thinking of giving it a shot. Any advice? Thanks!

Stay out of the open water! I drove over today, much more open than last Friday. I’ve never fished it hardwater, call me a sissy but with how much that area changes ice wise and working in the local hospital seeing very cold wet people come in the ER…..

Ok, seriously…I would be crazy to post anything about that area in a public forum. It would be my luck that someone would read my post and go walking out there fall in and…drown.
IF you plan on fishing that area…go with a guide or someone that’s been out there before.
I’ve been out there twice…with a guide. The first time and the last time.

Wait till open water season. I have thought about going out there but 1)it’s a long walk 2)the ice is not consistent 3)there is no fish in that river worth risking your life for unless there is a train bridge involved 4)its a long walk 5) I would go out there only in a Wilcraft
If you need a fix for fish that badly that you are willing to risk falling thru the ice shoot me a PM or head to Everts with the boat
I have taken them risks and 9 times out of 10 they were not worth it.
February 19, 2009 at 1:20 am #750072I’m down there every day.. You have prolly saw me next to the channel.. The bite hasnt been as good as last winter.. Lots of smaller fish.. The bite is about 20 minutes before sunrise and before sunset.. Mostly saugers.. I think the PWT tournaments hurt the fishing, plus the heavy harvest last winter and spring.. I am marking lots of shad, and theres lots of dead ones around…. jiggin raps and plastics, are what im using.. the walk takes 10 minutes… You do have to watch the ice.. had to jump over a 3 foot crack last night under the bridge.. Ice varies from 5 inches by channel to over a foot in most spots…

How do you think the PWT tournament hurt the fishing? I know that most of the big bags that were caught in that tourney came from pool 3 and released in the Croix, as it was a catch and release tournament. It has just been a really wierd winter as far as fishing goes. The bite this year (walleye and crappie) has been alot slower on the Croix and way different than last year at this time as far as numbers and location and etc. If anything though the tourney helped the walleye population on the Croix. The bigger walleye ARE in there just that no one has found them or got them to bite yet this year and even the crappies that are getting cleaned have shad in their bellies
February 19, 2009 at 5:32 am #750222yeah who knows.. the croix was great down there last few winters and springs.. now its all small fish.. last year it was a mix of nice fish and small fish.. i think the fishing pressure over the last couple years took its toll. last winter and spring lots of fish were taken off that spot.
not bashing walleye tournaments.. i fish the flw..
