First of all I’d like to say for ALL the people fishing the Croix I kind have expected to see a few more posts in this forum. I wasnt going to make a post until I got a good pattern going but there hasnt been one, everything is different every day for the bite as far as time, colors, and size.
I have spent almost everyday on the Croix since I got back from the pool 10 GTG with the exception of friday (went to a lake tip-up fishing for northern) . I have been trying to piece together a pattern for the walleye bite in the Bayport area basin but nothing has been consistant. I fished a current seam in 16FOW, 24FOW, and 32FOW and most depths in between to pull my biggest Croix eye this season at 18 3/4 inches with a few crappies mixed in. I have also been fishing the bottom of steep break lines in 32-36FOW to find a pretty consistantly slow crappie bite and the walleye and sauger have been making a presence more and more with sizes ranging from 8 inches to 18 inches. Crappies have been coming in at sizes from 6-14 inches. Most walleye and sauger have been coming on small demon or other crappie jigs and the smallest crappie minnows in the bucket one day and jigging raps and fat-heads other days. The bite has been really slow but is progressively getting better. There is no specific time they are biting as sporatic bites occur throughout the day with maybe the best bites coming sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon and sometimes in the evening. Nothing has been consistant other than my patience and time on the ice and 100% faith in my spots
Good luck out there and keep us posted
Remember to please take your trash off the ice with you as well
