Quite time of year in between open and hardwater on the St. Croix. I’ll be in the northwoods for gun opener in WI this weekend – Good luck fellow hunters!

Anyone know if the King plant is pumping warm water? And if it is, any bite going on? Been a long time since I checked out that shore bite.

It’s been a long hunting season but only a few more weeks to go before switching over to fishing again. With gas prices getting up there last year was the first time I fished the croix in the winter. I’m really looking forward to getting out there this year, it’s so close I can be out there after work a few times a week. See everyone out there, I’m the one that stays away from the crowds.

The bite is slow but you can still pick up nice crappies and white bass. Also bottom rigging carp and channel cats have been active. Last Thursday a guy down there that was excited about 2 channels he got around 5 pounds and some 12-13 inch crappies mixed with white bass. Casting a plain hook under a bobber retrieving slowly is the best way now. Bottom rigging with a worm has produced well lately. All in All it is fun!

The pics are a 10 pound 14 oz channel.

I took out the boat toady and it was chilly had a lot of fish though. Eventually I’ll post in the Carp/roughfish forum.

The plant is running every day for I can see the stack out my kitchen window. For the bite I do not know.

The Croix is pretty much froze shore to shore below the Stillwater bridge. There are a couple small open spots.

Well it is still wide open water around Prescott where a buddy and I got into the saugers pretty nicely on Sunday. Ended up with 4 nice eaters and one FAT 21″ that went back (never saw a sauger that big). Fished right along a rocky shore in 13-18 FOW with jig and fathead.

Deep fried em up last night. mmmm

Try the fall bite on pool 4 a fat sauger is quite common. That is a nice sauger for the Croix
