Been on the river virtually everyday, boating a mixed bag daily. The most fish landed has been smallmouths (them things are pesky ) coming in second has been walleye and sauger, then perch, and thankfully last on the list is sheephead coming in with one in 6 days of fishing. Finding the notorius “eye” has not been a problem on breaklines that drop from 18-24FOW. Catching walleye’s with size is a problem,I’ve only been pulling a max of 2 16-20 inchers in a certain area where in other areas I can boat 12+ walleye being 6-12 inches. I usually drift or drag a live bait rigged leech or spinner rig on one rod and a paddle tail or ringworm or a jig and crawler on another. Smallmouths have been completely inhaling firecracker with chart.tail paddle tails in the depths I’ve been fishing for eye’s. Smallmouths are everywhere. The perch have been 8-10 inchers also coming on the same breaklines fished for walleye. It’s nice to get out on the river during the week its so calm and you dont have to dodge boats everywhere you go. best times for fishing have been between 7am to 3pm for me and at dusk. Best colors for spinners have been orange, green or chartruese, try using some floating rigs i’ve boated some “eye’s” and sauger this way when rigging and spinners have not worked.
I KNOW there are some big walleye in the river and I have to be on the rite spots now it’s just finding out what they want . the bigger fish have to be getting hungry SOON I hope
