Guys, here’s a report from the Croix…
June 8, 2008 The river has been coming up for a few days and forecasted to rise another 2.5 feet. Water clarity is fairly good despite the water rise, and debris is minimal. The Croix should crest midweek. St. Croix River walleye are hitting on livebait rigs, with crawlers, leeches and minnows, and trolled crankbaits. With the rising water, the walleye bite that has been temperamental, where the eyes will hit but the window of opportunity is smaller, and the areas they are found in are few. The white tips that are coming are nice fish, with a good share in the 2 to 3.5 pound range. Best walleye depths have been from 16 to 25 feet of water, though a shallower bite should take place as the week goes on.
Smallmouth bass have been going strong and hitting well, with most slow fall Senko style plastics taking fish. Plus tubes, jerk baits, buzz baits, spinner baits, Rapala Husky Jerks, and grubs are fooling fish. All of these presentations have been landing nice bronze backs. Bass are still shallow and caught casting to visible structure.
Water temp 66 degrees. The river is 678.75 feet above sea level in Stillwater, Minnesota. The normal pool level is 675.5.
