Of course its stupid. But honestly, how many people does this negativaly affect? I would never use 3 lines for any fishing I do out there. If I troll alone 2 lines is plenty to handle and 4 is plenty if someone is with me. I know there area exceptions but I’m guessing the overwhelming majority of people fishing the Croix would not use more than 2 lines if they could.
(of course just about everyone who would is probably on this website and about to bear down on my post)

I have trolled 3 lines on the SCR numerous times, however, it can become a challenge and you can get busier than a one legged man in an Arkansas kicking contest! Often it is more work than fun!

Ps when fishing alone I would LOVE to have three rods out. One with a bully, one cut bait and one with a worm.

Call me, then we can have 4 lines out

Just buy a license from both states. Then when the officer asks for it, pull out the other states license, opposite of what he enforces. Then, blow his mind and take out the other one right before he cites you for a violation.

Regulations say you must be licensed in the state you reside in. So that’d work for a little while, then the CO would ask for your resident license.
Personally fishing three lines isn’t hard when the two side poles are 8’3″…

It was tongue-in-cheek, but isn’t it possible to buy a non-resident season license? I know they are spendy, but in theory could you do this?

Pug – Even if you had a Wisconsin non-resident fishing license you are not authorized to follow Wisconsin’s more liberal fishing privileges. Reference Page 42, 2008 Minnesota Fishing Regulations: BORDER WATERS – When Minnesota’s fishing regulations differ from a bordering state’s regulations, Minnesota residents and persons fishing under a Minnesota non-resident license must comply with Minnesota regulations and may not exercise more liberal fishing privileges in the waters of the bordering state

They have us coming and going. If you are a Minnesota resident, fishing with a Wisconsin non-resident license you must still follow the regulations of the state in which you reside. A Wisconsin Conservation Officer will not tag you for this but if you are checked by a Minnesota Conservation Officer and you show him a Wisconsin Non-Resident license he will ask to see your driver’s license or some other form of ID to verify which state you are from. If you are a Minnesota resident, he will give you a citation.

Turk – I think there might be a promotional oppportunity here in all this discussion. Is Limit Creek running a Border Waters Special right now on the perfect 8’3″ rod with which to work 3 lines? Sounds like a number of border waters fisherman are thinking of adding another rod to their repertoire.
