I’m new to the river and thinking about trying it out above stillwater for smallies and white tips on Sunday. Just looking for any advice on a plan of attack. Thanks!

Not sure how far above Stillwater you are going. I just checked the water temp at the Stillwater rivergage and it was 51 degrees. Water is up a bit at 677.4′ and slightly stained. At those temps and conditions I would recommend slowing down your presentations and patience, patience. This is a good time for live bait – crawlers and fatheads.

You should be able to find some fish up there. Look for deeper water and current seems. Other wise look for outside bends in the channel where theres decent current and wood. These outside bends might not need to be very deep to hold eyes if there good wood cover for them. Minnows and crawlers work good.

I am gong to fish that direction tomorrow. This time of year I have done well fishing the upper end of deeper pools with a simple minnow and jig. Several of these areas above Stillwater have submerged timber providing nice smallies on top and deeper on the drop walleyes.

A community spot is below the Stillwater bridge pilings, the Wisconsin side right below the brdge can hold smallies, walleye and some nice crappies.
