Finally back on the water again. Well its been a long time since i’ve been on the water, due to TONS of work and school this summer. But I made it out last night with some good sucess. We fished from the Hudson bridge South to Afton concentrating on deep water fish. These fish were in 27-34ft with BIG school of Shad above them. I was pulling Deep ReefRunners off the back 190ft and #7 shad on the front with snap weights. The nicer Walleyes and Saugers all came on the Deep ReefRunners, biggest being 23″. The one thing I learned last night was, when pulling these big ReefRunners a shock leader is KEY. I was pulling straight PowerPro (2-2.7mph) and lost 3 really nice fish have way in to the boat, took the extra 5 minutes to tie on a mono leaders, what do ya know, no more lost fish. Reports from the bait shop, are lots of smaller walleyes coming in 14-21ft on crawlers and leaches. Sometimes straight lindy rigs with no beads or anything have been putting more fish in the boat than spinners. I’ll be out much more now with the fall bite starting and will keep ya all posted.

Darn good to hear from you Has. Several people at the GTG mentioned missing your information and also wondered about where you might have trolled off to! Excellent report as always….

Nice to see you made it out Has! Sounds like you had a good time. I’ll be heading out tonight to chase some kittys. I’ll let you know how I did. Good luck on the water!

I forgot to mention the last guide trip I had out. Andersen windows had a big group fly in from Virginia. I was riggin a rock pointwith leeches when, BANG. The fish darn near ripped the rod right out of my hands. I set the hook and out of the water flys a mid 40″ Muskie, while in the air the line snaped, of course. About 5 minutes later, one of the other guide boats fishing next to me had the same fish fallow the 13″ walleye to the boat. Went out the next day for a hour to catch that fish but, of course we didn’t see him. Maybe next time I head out for Muskies i’ll just bring leeches.
