Often when fishing gets tough long leaders go lengths to help anglers catch more fish especially during the dog days of summer. Lindy rigging with seven and eight feet leaders can quickly pay off when rigging bait versus using the standard three foot leaders. These long leaders on a wolf river rig also pays dividends for anglers using plain hooks or spinners.

I actualy took my own advice today and lengthened the leaders on the spinners, we bagged some nice eyes (16 to 18″ range) and saug dogs (16 to 17″ range) today in this heat. Plus another big one that this time got away…you don’t often hear me say those words, but we saw her at least…

I hear the entire river system is going good, I might have to hit south of Prescott soon for the wing dam casting action and sand flat trolling fun.

Thanks for this tip Turk! It’s good to hear this from a Croix expert. Two years ago, I was given the opposite tip cause the water is so stained in the river vs. say Mille Lacs where long lindy’s are the norm.

I have been using 3′ and less leaders so its good to get this tip.
