Not really much to post about as far as fishing goes but we had a wonderful day on the Croix today!

I did pull a crank bait for a while – mostly just while in the no-wake zones in Hudson and Afton. We did manage to hook into some nice smallies (I’m still amazed that they will hit a crankbait pulled along the bottom in 12-15 fow?!?!). We also had a few eyes nibble the gibble (that would be the trailing hooks) along the shorelines. My son (back from Afghanistan) caught his first walleye EVER … nothing to write about as it was a shortie but it was his first none the less… he wants to go out again tomorrow morning for the pre-dawn raid!

Mostly, we spent the day down by the Kinni; swimming and picnicing. Also pulled the kids around on the tube and my son cut some waves on a single ski. It was hot out there but the Croix offered an excellent reprive from heat.

I think I’m going to have to change my work week schedule so that I have days off during the week. What a beautiful body of water on a day when the boats are at a minimum….

You are right about how nice this river can be, was out for about 7 hours a month ago, only caught a few sheepies but the scenery was great! saw some pretty nice girls out there too. im going to learn and fish this river extensively in the future. Have heard there are some nice wallys and saugers out there too. and once again, the views and nature all around you is quite beautifull. saw a couple of bald eagles out there!!! iwas pulling spinner rigs w/ cralers
