Well today at the last second I decided to get out and soak some bait. I had no success for quite some time then started to pull some nice fish in. Then I moved and got Multiple hits on cutbait but no fish. On the 4 run with cutbait I finally conected it put up a great fight but came in kind of fast and fought like no other fish I had ever caught. Good reason too it was a shoft shell turtle. While I was fighting that turtle I got another hit so I set the hook and back in the rod holder. To make it short I got a double on softshells. I had never caught one before and now had 2 in the boat trying to bite everything. Castandblast was on his way up so I got some video and pics of me struggling with 2 turtles……I think nexttime I’ll cut the line before I pull in another

One is common But 2? Crazy!

Holst knows a thing or two about hooking into big leatherbacks!

They put up a good fight – eh?

    Aaron,

We went out yesturday and used cut bait for channels and i was reeling in that set up and what felt like a fish ended up being a turtle Sad thing is i was using a 7/0 circle hook and had to let him take it back to the water with him…

We used to trot-line down in Kansas. Softshells were pretty common accidental catches. They are nasty beasts. Long necks and they bite like a snake. I’d (almost) rather deal with a snapper. That’s a really funny video!

A little nip that I got in the video made me even more nervous. I tried to use a pair of surgical pliers and the dang turtle broke them. Can’t wait for the holiday week to be done with so I can get back out on the croix.

This struggle lasted much longer than the video. I accually hurt my back during this at some time. I was lucky that castand blast was nearby in another boat to come give me a hand with my photo.
