Here’s a fishing update. Keep catchin’
June 24, 2007 St. Croix River walleye fishing continues to be very good, reports from Stillwater and Bayport and south all the way to Prescott say the same thing good walleye bite, so no one “area” is holding the fish. Large walleyes continue to be caught, mixed in with eating sized 15 to 18 inch walleye. Saugers have also been hammering the same top presentations as the walleye.
Top presentations for walleye continue to be livebait with crawlers and leeches being the best choices when shown to the fish slowly on a slip weight set up,(try this tactic when you have isolated the fish). Livebait trolled on spinner rigs is hot. Trolling crankbaits is also working in depths from 8 to 24 fow. Look for golds and orange colors to produce walleye and sauger. Smallmouth are still going well and starting to locate deeper in the day than previous weeks. Tube jigs and plastics on Carolina rigs have been best..

June 28, 2007 St. Croix smallmouth update. Even with a cold front moving through and an east wind, the good bite for the bronze backs continues. Many different lures are landing these great fighting fish and the Croix supports numerous smallmouth in the 14 to 15 inches with large 18” and bigger fish mixed in during the days catch. As stated before, many presentations are working to catch smallmouth from jigs and tubes to topwater presentations (everyone loves topwater!) best techniques relate more to where the fish are located and they are running deeper than previous weeks. Colors that are catching fish, choose watermelon seed and brown/red crawdad. Keep catchin and have fun.
