had a buddy out this morning, the intent was to find smallies and silvers on the fly rod, and we did despite the calm conditions. We found numbers of smallies on the shoreline sand flats early. The minnows were up using the shallows and we were throwing med sized poppers, white or silver on the fly rod and having a good old time. Poppers with a deep cupped face to really make a commotion out there seem to work best for me.
Try black bass, catfish, any shoreline with a sandy warm flat should be holding some fish right now. If fly rod is not your game, small skitter pops or POP-R’s would do the trick on light spinning gear.
