Nice smallies, Can you please post a pic of your rig? I haven’t had much patience for tubes on jigs. All my bass buddies swear by tubes so I should learn!

Last summer they were on fire using topwater baits like the Skitterpop. I caught my personal best to date 20.5″ on the Croix My son and daughter both picked up their best a 18″ and 16″ respectively. It was a good year!

    Thanks for any info,

    Ferny.

i’ll take a photo tonight and post. I’ve had good luck also on an “insider” tube jig with a red hook. Northland makes a good one. 1/8 oz. I was actually up in your neck of the woods Ferny.

Thanks SteveO, I could have used that last night. I had my boy out and we got skunked! I just had two frisky smallies hit on top water and miss. Nothing casting cranks, spinnerbaits and Skitterpops! Man did I mark a ton of fish 10′-15′ deep! We trolled #7 ShadRaps to no avail. It was a awesome night to be out though.

I had something poke it’s head up in front of us and it looked like an otter! I guess it could have been a beaver but this thing just poked it’s head up and it didn’t float like a beaver??? I never did see it again to positively identify it. I haven’t seen any otters for about 6-7 years near Clydes!

    Thanks,

    Ferny.

We had a fun night last night. 7 species. Found a crappie trolling bite that was great. Also got walleye, sauger, cat, pike (30 inch), smallie and sheep. 8 species if you count the 3 lamphreys on the northern. Mostly got crappies. Biggest was 12.5 Also lost “something big” after playing all the way to the boat. It was just out of site when it came unhooked. Finally a good night on the Croix. I needed that for incentive.
