I’m going up to Mille Lacs Saturday, but I might make it out there later in the weekend.

got out early Saturday morning… hit the launch by 5 am, worked the channel for a few hours and then went south of the bridge. Had a fun multi-species day. On the day, I caught walleye, sauger, smallmouth bass, channel cats, crappies, and, of course, sheephead! I mostly pulled a shadrap-style lure (check out the Berkley Frenzy Flicker shad – man’s mall had them on sale so I stocked up) but also did some jigging and slip-bobbering. Was off the river by noon… The weather wasn’t the greatest but it kept the pleasure craft to a minimum!

Went out last night from about 7pm-1am. I caught a lot of wind and a big fat sheephead. It was still a beatiful night to be on the river.

Also out Saturday morning after missing my alarm. Was only able to fish 9-noon but made it productive leadcoring the Flicker Shads and wally divers. Caught a dozen eyes/sauger, most 12-14″ but kept one 15, 1 16, and 1 20″.

    2.5-3 mph in 17-20′.

    Marked a ton of fish.

Well I don’t know about the other anglers, but I had trips on Friday and Saturday and we did well, lots of keepers, and many (12) over 22″. Livebait in 12 to 22 fow. Light light biters, had to feed line for ten seconds…reel in the slack…point the rod tip to the fish…feel weightset the hook and reel! Fish on!
This is a good opportunity to acknowledge that I (and many others on this site) release walleyes over 20″, it feels very nice to release these fish and know you are helping the resource and taking in a selective way. It’s your call, but over time I find this release of bigger walleyes rewarding.
Good luck and think every bump is a walleye!
    Keep catchin’

down at Jimmy’s, we have been told that practically all live baits have been working! crawlers, fatheads, leaches. Most guys are trolling or drifting harnesses w/ crawlers and jigging w/ leaches and fatheads. Good luck!!
