Anyone else here fish the upper st croix above the Taylors Falls? I have fished it since I could remeber but for crappies and an occasional bass with my dad…plan to hit it this summer some just curious what a guy goes around trying up there. My plan was one rod with a botom bouncer and spinner one with leadcore and a jigging rod of course…anyone else have much experience up there. was also thinkin a guy cast cranks and jigs up on shallow rocks at first light as well any input would be great. Just wondering if I am on the right path

I fished it a few times and you probably won’t need any bottom bouncers. I think it’s mostly less than 8′ depending on how high the water is I was way North (hwy 70). Shallow raps (and Lindy rigs) in the areas that are “deeper” than other area work for walleyes and cast spinners and cranks for smallies near rock.

    Good luck,

I plan on fishing around the St croix Falls area putting in at Lions park there I know there is a deep hole just above the dam where crappies tend to suspend as I have hammered them in there before but I am trying to target walleye from the rope at the dam up to nervest dam(sp?)

I have only been up there a couple of time Eric. Fished south of the dam a lot. White bass where going nuts tonight. Walleyes where a little slow. Make sure and post your reports from up there. Its always good to hear from new water.

Made it out Saturday evening after getting my list done up there to get grandma finished moving into the nursing home but it is temporary for now to help her get some strength back I felt it was best to hit the water to relax for a bit. Lauched at St Croix Falls and hit the upper rivers first point I wanted to work…now going through town at 5 PM I saw a temp of 91 degrees!!! 8:45 leaving town it was 44!!!!! talk about a COLD FRONT Needless to say it was windy! We boated a pike right away and had 3 other small eyes to the boat with a TON of light biters. Worked a couple other ares with no lucka nd picked up 2 moresmall eyes pulling plugs over 12 ft. flats. Sunday morning I got up at the crack of dawn and fished till about 730 below Taylors Falls boated 5 eyes, 2 crappies and a 5 lb. flathead before having to load up to go get dad to take him to South Center Lake for some quick crappie action before we had to get back to helping out. We went to South Center and did very well on crappies gills and a pike and eye thrown int he mix too had a good time up there nothing serious for size or numbers but able to get everything I needed to get done by last night and still get some time on the water plan to be back home on pool 4 but always love getting up to the St croix every chance I get with the great scenery there is there. Also a heads up the lower St. Croix is as low as I have seen it in 20 years!!!!! Be very carful I saw some morons going wide open and smoke a sand flat and damn near throw the guy out the boat! Gotta use the head on the river people she is dangerous right now with a lot of structure that was never a factor now just below the surface. Jig and minnow was key sunday morning with a lot of light bites too
