Anyone have success on the river last weekend? Three of us fished Saturday from 6:30-5:00. It was a busy day. The short walleye were biting consistantly right along with the sheepies. We ended boating 12 legals from 15-20 inches. The highlight os the day was catching a 44″ sturgeon that schooled us around on the water for a solid 10 minutes.

Went out Sunday morning around 7:15 am. I knew it was going to be tough boat control when the wind was already blowing 15 mph when we hit the water. My fishing partner caught a nice 17.5″ walleye about 45 seconds into our drift. We thought at that rate we would be at Boat Drinks for hot pizza and shrimp by 11:00 am. Well, things did slow down and we ended up boating 4 legals by noon. The wind finally got the best of us by 1:00 pm and we loaded up and went to Prescott for some grub and cocktails. Some fish will be hitting the pan tonight.

Nice work Sandbar …My dad and I are thinking about heading out on the St. Croix on Saturday to avoid the “lake crowd” on opener. We have fished the St. Croix a few times but with minimal success for walleyes…We are thinking about putting in at Stillwater…so i guess my question is, is that a decent plan and from stillwater does anyone have any suggestions about heading north or south? Any help would be appreciated…Thanks!

My brother Burbob and I stayed in the Prescott area on sat.morning.Fished from 7 to 3.We also ended up with 12 legals and as many, if not more shorties.Over all it was a good day until the rain came and watered down my beer

Nice sturgeon Dean! I thought the wind would make it difficult to fish the lower croix so I headed north to the Osceola landing. Trolling cranks didn’t produce for me, so I tried live bait along a current break. The white bass were pretty active as well as a few walleyes. I only found one legal, but did get a sturgeon about half the size of yours. It’s good to hear the bite on the lower st croix has turned around.

    sounds like fun there Sandbar!

OK… so now I need to ask for some help… my bro-in-law is coming over from Chippewa Falls this weekend. He put me on some nice fish over the weekend on Wissota and now it’s my turn to show him what the Croix is capable of… the only problem is that I’ve haven’t been out since the morning of the opener oh so long ago and don’t have much of clue as to where to start (yes, I’m admitting I’m clueless)….

HELP!!! I just couldn’t take the ribbing from him (he’ll give me one of these: ) if I don’t put him on some ‘eyes…

Well, it is kind of a toss up. I did get an eagle on a par 4 a couple of weeks ago by holing out from about 135 yards. That sturgeon was a heck of a fight, especially with 8 lb test and a 6 lb lindy. Brian, I’ll pick the sturgeon over golf, just to keep your blood pressure down.

Nice fish Sandbar. Sounds like your getting a more consistent bite now too. I tried to fish for a while Sunday afternoon in the Hudson channel. Once I got out there, I decided to act like a great big bobber instead.

I think that sturgeon would look a hole lot better with a green background though. Did you loose a bet and have to wear that purple shirt for the picture???

Brian, you hate profesional sports, so quit jumping on bzzsaw’s Green Bay bandwagon!

bzzsaw – that wind was pretty interesting last Sunday. When my trolling motor had trouble taking us down stream, I figured it was time to go in. Hopefuly the bite continues to get better. When you heading out again?

Julie, Sandtrap is easy to spot with his lime green burmuda shorts and yellow golf shirt…unless he losses a bet.

    Sandbar,
I might be able to get out tomorrow night for a while. After that, it won’t be until Friday the 18th to prefish before the Hamm Room. Why does Mothers Day have to be in May???

    Riverdancer,

Nope that wasn’t me North of Stillwater. I launched out of the Bluffs South of the Kinni. Don’t listen to Brian, he is really a very avid golfer. He has a membership to Hudson Country Club and hot pink pants with a plaid shirt are his favorite atire.

Half day of vacation today. Should be on the water by 11:15.

P.S. Brian – I wouldn’t wear lime green and yeller, those is Packer colors.
