St Croix is Coming Down Fast and Heating Up Fast

On 8 April the St Croix crested at 682.6′ and on the 14th of April she was at 680′ and dropping. The river looks to be dropping slightly less than a half a foot a day. The weather pattern for the next week is warm and dry. If this keeps up we could have an opener at near normal pool elevation of about 675.5′.

The water temp today is 42.5 degrees and this warm sunny pattern should warm the water fast. Evening temps look to be at or slightly above freezing so they are not going to pull down the temp too much. We could see some white bass action pretty soon. Watch for a water temp near 50 degrees and we should start chasing silvers.

i went out yesterday and the surface water temp was about 42ish and by the time i left its was about 45ish. no white bass yeah its too cold. so i just when boating around. i went up the apple river and its clear you can see down about 5 feet or so it looks like mud out in the st croix where it meets. tons of suckers and carp
but i happened to see about a 40 inch musky or so give or take alittle. her back was all scared up and she looked to have a huge belly full. her belly was wider than her back. the temp coming out of the apple was about 47.5. so that should help speed things up.

hey benny i wonder how far up can you head up on the apple river. i heard it was a fairly shallow river, and there is alot of logs. and i was wondering if the suckers and carps are biting there.

well you can head up it alitte ways. um depends on your boat but i would stay right now even a fairly large boat could make it up ther. you don’t make it very far into the main river you can make it alittle ways. its clear and then you be able to navagate around. I have been up it pretty far in a boat, a few times for me it has been high and i went up the stream. it was great for walleye. mostly little ones but alot of them. but i don’t think that is the case this year. its already at normal level. getting to the apple there is some logs but its high enough you should be alright. you can catch as many suckers and a few carp as you want they are bitten.
