Hey where do you guys/girls fish the st. croix? i am interesting in expanding my horizon alittle. I want to fish down by stillwater to hastings not to picky. somewhere in ther anyhow. If anyone would be willing to show me a few spot or tell me where to fish down ther. i would be willing to trade my knowlegde. i fish mostly from copas to the high brigde and i know it very well. i am not asking for your best spot or anything. i am just looking for a new spot to try thank is a 16 foot jon boat big enough for that water down there? i like to fish walleye more but i do fish for bass as well.

    Benji,
Welcome to IDA. I’ve fished the river for many years between Hudson and Prescott. The best spots I’ve found on the river are the most obvious ones (year in and out). The Hudson channel, Afton and Kinni narrows. Now, I hope I didn’t let the cat out of the bag. Not saying there aren’t better spots on the river, but there is a reason a lot of people fish these areas. Good luck.

just kidding!!! I’ve been fishing the Croix mostly from Hudson to Kinni and beyond for just a few years now. I’ve ‘found’ a few nice spots – mostly the more well-known community spots but I have a few away-from-beaten-path spots as well. I’d love to learn more about the upper Croix. A buddy of mine (also from Forest Lake) fishes that stretch as well but I have yet to get on the river with him (he disappears to other waters once musky season opens…). Keep in touch as we get closer to opener…

sound like you both say the same thing the kini narrows
mostly lindys ,or jigging, early season live bait, ever use plasics any ringworms or kgrubs ?
you must have alot of people that fish it. if they are comunity spots take you ticket and get in line
is the lake just like a bath tub with no good changing depths, in the middle. I have looked at a couple of maps who knows if they are even close but i am wondering have anyone tried to troll out in the middle. or pretty much stick to the edges. and find eddies. behind and in front of bridges. that sort of thing huh.

    BennyJ,
There will be a lot of people fishing these spots but there is a big area to cover. I ussually fish live bait early in the spring but trolling cranks can also put fish in the boat. It can be difficult to weave through all the traffic trolling, especially opening weekend. You just have to use common sense – don’t drop anchor where you see guys have been drifting and cut off their drift line. You’ll probably get some dirty looks if you do that. All three spots are higher current areas and unless the wind is from the south, you can drift with the current and drag meat. The depths in these spots have some variations but stay fairly consistent (anywhere from 10 – 20 ft).

Benny. What do you fish for in the marine on croix area. I spend most of my time north of you around osceola and franconia. Do seem to get down by marine a few times every year. Have only located a couple of good walleye areas so far.

i fish mostly walleyes and smallmouth. i have been around that area just looking around. fished it while i have been up ther, like around rock island. and north but i haven’t done so good. for the past few years now i have spent most of my time on the walleyes.
i first started fishing it in a 14 foot narrow tiny duck boot fishing for bass. i had been out ther with my brother once. He has fished it up till then more than me he showed me around alittle. i didn’t catch much. i had no depth finder or really anything. i didn’t have many lures but it was great; i cought a bunch of smallys.
And i still keep coming back its close and it produces.
Saturday i will be out wackin the white bass. look for a 16 foot alumacraft with a 25bigfoot on back. if you decide to go out. later

You think the white are going all ready? I would think it would need to get a little warmer. Maybe Ill load up the kids in my jon boat and head over and look around. They dont like to fish much so its more of a boat ride. I have a 16′ polarcraft with a 25 honda. Was thinking about taking them sucker fishing somewhere tomorrow but maybe a boat ride will be in order.
