I fished a few west metro lakes today. All smaller lakes ofcourse thinking the water would warm up faster. Did not do well at all. Me and my brother nailed a few crappies here and there but nothing big. It was just too hard to find a good concentration in this weather. Highest water temp we found was 43.7F. But the bass were eating. They hooked up on the crappie minnow well. I’d say about another week and the crappie action will pick up much faster. The warmer water temps we found were all on the south end of the lakes in muddy water…

Note: around 6:30pm the water was freezing up my pole. Burr…

Prior to the Croix opener every year I fish the Mississippi for walleye, but I have always thought this time of year would be excellent for crappies on the St. Croix. I would bet that from mid April on, there are slabs in the shallows just waiting for a 1/8 ounce mister twister to go by…

i was on a metro lake, and the crappies were biting like crazy as soon as the sun setted. its unbeleivable, the only bad thing is that the lake is packed with people, dunno how many more years until that lake goes dry of crappie.
