I just got my Friday, June 27th Stillwater Gazette and they have posted on Page 2 a Minnesota DNR press release which declares that the St Croix has a no-wake rule in effect between Taylor Falls and Prescott. The rule was triggered because the river reached 683 feet above sea level at Stillwater. The article indicates the no-wake rule will remain in effect until the river recedes below 683 feet, which is not expected to happen until the middle of next week.

Looks like the launch is closed in Hudson. Water is way up.
Note to people: When the road is closed to the launch it means the launch is CLOSED.

I wish them luck enforcing it this late in the season. Launched @ the CO park last night, they mentioned they “thought” it was no wake, but they could not find their signs to post. If it was no wake, neither the Wash. Co sheriff or the Wi DNR were enforcing it. Everyone was running wide open as usual. The launch @ the park is still open and I would not expect it to close. Funny, because the levels look lower than the spring levels at this point to implement a no wake.

As of this morning, (6/29) the Corps of Engineers website has the river elevation at Stillwater at about 681.4. Thats a foot and a half below 683. Would the No-Wake be in effect??

I heard that the no wake rule was in the paper too. This morning, my first day back, I launched at Afton. The level by their trusty ruler was less than 682. They told me you can’t believe everything you read in the paper.

Today’s St Paul Pioneer Press said the DNR retracted their no-wake restriction. Supposedly they instituted the restriction because they were forecasting the St Croix to rise to 683. The new forecast is for less than 682 so the DNR withdrew the no-wake restriction. Sounds to me like somebody has their head up their @#!!. Turned out to be a beautiful weekend, they probably chased some people away with their bogus press release. Hopefully she is going to start coming down.
