Just got back from Ontario, Canada on Tuesday on a ice fishing trip. We left last Thursday night and stayed at a cabin that is on Eagle Lake. Fishin’ was a little slow but I have seen it worse. We fished Eagle Lake for walleys on Friday. The weather was cloudy and warm. There was about 6-8 inches of snow on the ice along with about 4 inches of water. We caught our limit of walleys which tasted really good that night. On Saturday, we drove up to Cliff Lake which is 40 miles away from camp. It was so foggy we could only see about a hundred feet in front of us. Thank god I had my gps. We caught a few lake trout but nothing like we have in the past. On Sunday, we fished Eagle Lake again and it was stil foggy and warm just about all the snow had melted and there was about 8 inches of water on the ice. The fishing was going down hill to. We could see fish on our flashers but could not get them to bite. I think I used every thing in my tackle box. Still ended up with a couple of smaller saugers for the day. On monday, we went back up to Cliff Lake. The ice finally lifted so we didn’t have to stand in water all day. The sun evern poked out for a few hours but not before it sprinkled. Missed a few fish but they just would not bite like they usally do. All and all it was a fun trip. None of us caught anything huge but they sure did tast good. I have been going up to Eagle Lake for the last 5 years and the guys I have been going with have been going up there for more than 20 years. So we have fished in all kinds of different weather conditions. We also have made some good friends up there along the way. Good fishing or bad I will be going up there next year and hopefully many years after that.
